Long wait is over! RCS barrier between iOS and Android lifted

Ana sayfa / News

Finally, the RCS feature, which allows iOS and Android users to message each other via mobile data and wireless connections without the need for a third-party app like WhatsApp, has started to be rolled out to iOS users.

Introduced by Google in 2019, RCS (Rich Communication Services) enables users to access many features similar to WhatsApp and Telegram without using any specific app. Since 2021, Google has been trying to persuade Apple to support this system. Apple, known for its resistance within its ecosystem, finally relented and introduced RCS support with iOS 18.

RCS offers a more advanced messaging experience compared to traditional SMS messaging. It allows for high-resolution images and videos, voice messages, and location sharing.

In addition to features like group chats and read receipts similar to WhatsApp and Telegram, RCS ensures that all these features are end-to-end encrypted, meaning your data is not shared with third-party app providers.

Apple announced RCS messaging, you didn’t notice!

Apple should have released RCS messaging with a big announcement, but it chose to announce it quietly. Here are the details!

Despite Apple’s previous reluctance, this feature is now prominently displayed in the closed beta of iOS 18. Users from major U.S. carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have confirmed via Twitter that they can now message Android users using RCS.

According to responses from Brandon Butch, who shared the visuals, photos and videos reach Android users instantly and without any loss of quality. Currently, RCS is only supported by certain major operators in the U.S., but it is expected to spread worldwide very soon, marking a new era in communication with Android users.

What are your thoughts on Apple finally adopting RCS and ushering in a new era of communication with Android users? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section or through our social media channels.
